Grand Master’s Message – October 2021

Attitude and Enthusiasm

At the beginning of September, we had our Full Staff meeting with our Grand Lodge Officers including our District Lecturers. In our meeting, we discussed the need for all officers including lodge officers to lead with enthusiasm. Enthusiasm with a good attitude will make all the difference in the world for our fraternity. I know that you will accomplish so much more.

In my office, I have a picture that says “ATTITUDE – it’s the little things that make a big difference”. Try it and you will be surprised how your lodge will change for the best. It’s the little things that DO make a big difference!

This month I have had the pleasure of visiting lodges that haven’t seen a Grand Lodge officer (except DD and AA) for many years. On September 8, my Senior Grand Steward Earl Gunderson, Grand Marshal Scott Paulson, District Deputy Chris “Skipper” Young, Area Administrator Douglas Morrison and I had a great time visiting Hiram D Fisher No. 222 in Florence. It was a trip that took us about 5 hours one way. It seemed like a long way to travel, however, seeing the smiles and excitement they had for us was worth every minute of travel. We had a great time and we were able to share brotherly love with our brothers. It’s the little things that DO make a big difference!

Talking about attitude, we (Grand Marshal Scott Paulson and I) traveled to Merrill, Wisconsin (Virginia Falls Lodge) on September 14,  and what a great time we had again. This lodge has lots of enthusiasm and they are doing wonderful things. During the last couple of months, they have raised 9 new MMs and they have at least one new petition received that evening. It’s the little things that DO make a big difference!

With all that said, I can’t figure out what we need to do to get our lodges to travel. When you travel, you help the other lodges with their attitude and excitement. You also add enthusiasm and excitement to your lodge brothers.  You’ll enjoy your evening and make others happy with your attendance. On your travel home, everyone will rehash the event and laugh about different things and Masonry will be the winner. So, take a trip, enjoy the time and bring back Masonry to your lodge. It’s the little things that DO make a big difference!

Spreading Brotherly Love is so rewarding and it makes you feel good, too. I am asking for your help, get your lodge to travel, have fun and share that brotherly love. It’s the little things that DO make a big difference!

Attitude, Enthusiasm, Excitement and Brotherly Love, what more do we need?  Remember, It’s the little things that DO make a big difference!
