Grand Master’s Message – May 2023

I’m Proud to be a Freemason!

I’m Proud of who we are!

I’m Proud of what we do!

Only two articles to go as your Grand Master . . . An important distinction. Your leadership team is not pushing to an end, it is launching into the next successful Masonic year! We have clearly evolved this Fraternity considerably over these past months and there is no doubt the future will continue to build on those evolutions.

Those of you on our email list have received my communication pleading those Lodges that go dark in the summer to discontinue that practice. Whether you stay “lit” or just “dim a bit” it’s up to you but, don’t shut down the opportunity for the good men of our communities to join our organization. Don’t put them on hold for months unnecessarily. You must take your time to protect your culture but, once you’ve made the decision that you want them, don’t let archaic procedures stall their journey.  Further, we still have nearly 300 men that we have elected to membership in our Fraternity over the past 24 months that are not yet Master Masons.  Additionally, we have another 300+ that have been introduced to Lodges throughout the State for consideration. Remember to follow your processes and protect your culture but, we must hold ourselves accountable to these 600+ men.

As we launch into the next successful year, I’d be remiss if I didn’t personally thank those Lodges and Appendant bodies (Scottish Rite – Valley of Milwaukee and Zor Shrine specifically) that have made a dramatic financial commitment to the Wisconsin Freemasonry membership initiative. This initiative, driven by our Membership committee, creates relevance through digital and physical efforts.  Because we are relevant, “Good” continues to find us! We’re in this together, we are a Masonic family. Your leadership team made a major commitment a few years ago to change the direction of Wisconsin Freemasonry. It clearly has worked, and will continue to, thanks to the commitment of your upcoming leadership team officers and the financial support we continue to receive.

I am so Proud of how widespread the impact has been.  More huge stats for you.  Over 2/3 of our Lodges have raised a Master Mason in the past 12 months!  Three of them have raised 10 or more! This includes Cassia Lodge that has grown by nearly 25%! Think of the impact they can have. Think of the impact that we can have throughout our entire State. Being bigger does not make us better but, it does allow us to do more things.

Reminders:

  • As a Mason you have an obligation to be better every day in every way.
  • Freemasonry has an unbelievable impact on your local community.
  • We matter!
  • We teach others.
  • We demonstrate good behavior.

Grand Master of Wisconsin Freemasonry
