Oregon Lodge Hosts Community Celebration To Honor First Responders, Correctional Staff

By Rich Rygh

It was a beautiful summer evening on August 31st. The Triangle Park in the Village of Oregon was packed. It was a community celebration honoring the members of the Police and Fire/EMS and staff of the Oregon Correctional Center and their families. Pictured above, first responders, their families and community members filled the park to honor the Police and Fire/EMS and staff of the Oregon Correctional Center.

It was the third annual celebration featuring free food, and entertainment for the first responders, the correctional staff and their families. It gave members of the community an opportunity to say “thank you”.

Awards were presented within the various departments for outstanding performance and life saving incidents.

The original event was created by a local man and his wife, Josh (pictured above) and Malia King. They are moving out of state and did not want the annual celebration to end. They approached the Freemasons of Oregon Masonic Lodge asking if they would take it over. Senior Deacon John Graham and his committee began planning immediately assisted by Oregon Chapter of Eastern Star. The event was a huge success and plans are in the works for next year.
