Bayfield County K9 Program supported by Iron River Freemasons

Ancient Landmark Freemasons Lodge (No. 210) in Iron River had the opportunity to meet Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department’s two K9 deputies on July 3rd.

The Sheriff’s Office K9 program started in 2017, their first dog Parker was named in memory of Deputy Richard Parquette who died in the line of duty in 1996. The K9 program has been so successful they decided to add a second dog this year. The dogs are trained in drug detection, apprehension, and assisting in searching for missing persons.

It was interesting to learn that the cost of the K9 program is completely covered by donations from the public and services organizations (with the exceptions of the deputies’ wages). These expenses include squad modifications, vet care, and training costs just to name a few.

The Ancient Landmark Brothers were impressed by the presentation of the two officers and their dogs — and were incredibly happy to be able to present the Sheriff’s office with a check for $800.00 for the K9 program. Pictured above, Master Richard Theien presents the donation to Deputy Ryan Miller with Zeke, on far right is Sergent David Renz with Parker.
