Each year, Quincy Adams Masonic Lodge hosts a Short Story Contest for local school aged kids in the Adams/Friendship area.
The contest is divided into 3 age groups: 10 and under, 16 and under, and 18 and under. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cash prizes are given to the winners of each age category.
The short story must be an original / fictional story, created by the author.
They are judged on: 1. originality and imagination, 2. grammar, 3. spelling and punctuation, and 4. content.
“This is one of the community activities I enjoy the most,” said Robert Theim, Master of Quincy Adams Masonic Lodge (No. 71). “It gives the kids an opportunity to develop skills which they can utilize throughout their entire life. Each story is evaluated and critiqued so the kids can learn with each entry they submit.”
Brother Theim continued, “It is really a treat to watch the kid’s writing skills and imagination grow from one year to the next. The Masons help make good men better, this is one way the Masons have helped make me a better man.”
