After years of dedicated service, the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center’s beloved police K-9, Atilla (pictured above), will officially retire on September 30. Atilla has served this facility with loyalty and excellence, ensuring the safety of Veterans, staff and visitors through specialized patrols and detection work. He has also been a cherished presence in our community and at outreach events, embodying the spirit of service we all strive to uphold.
As preparations are underway to celebrate Atilla’s retirement, the VA is working to ensure the continuation of the K-9 program, which is vital to maintain a safe and secure environment in Milwaukee VA. The presence of a properly trained K-9 team significantly enhances the police department’s ability to detect contraband, deter threats and provide security for those they serve.
Atilla and his predecessor were generously donated by a local benefactor who has since passed away.
The VAMC is seeking the support of our local Veteran Service Organizations to help them procure a new K-9 partner for their police department. The cost of acquiring and training a new K-9 is significant, and any assistance in identifying an appropriate donation opportunity would be deeply appreciated.
This is more than just a security measure; it’s an investment in the safety, comfort, and morale of our Veteran community.

On August 21, Masonic Service Representative Conrad Zvara (Lake Lodge No. 189, Milwaukee) presented a check on behalf of the Masonic Service Association (MSA) and the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin to the VAMC’s Voluntary Services Office to be applied to the fund needed to obtain, train, and house the handler during training.
If any Masonic entity would like to contribute to this effort feel free to contact Brother Zvara at 414-630-2258. Leave a message and he will call you back with the necessary information as soon as possible.
