Reedsburg Lodge’s 40th Annual Senior Citizens’ Thanksgiving Dinner

By Brother Doug Bentley

The tradition began in 1986 when Past Master James Shultis and Master Ralph Thompson discussed the community benefits of holding a free Thanksgiving Dinner for area senior citizens. The Reedsburg Lodge and the Eastern Star embraced the project and with the help of the members and their families, prepared the meal which served 125 guests the first year.

The tradition continued on November 27, Thanksgiving Day. The Lodge provided delivery within the Reedsburg city limits and carry out meals. The dinner was prepared at the Reedsburg United Methodist Church.

There was no cost. The only requirement was an advance reservation and a hearty appetite.

“Our Thanksgiving Dinner is the most fulfilling project we do,” stated Bryant Clements, current Master of the Lodge. “We are able to give back to the community and spend part of the day with some great people. It enriches everyone’s holiday.”
