Every year, Quincy Adams Freemasons Lodge (No. 71) and the Adams County Library host a “Youth Short Story Contest” for school-aged kids in the Adams/Friendship Area. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three stories in three different age categories; 18 and younger, 15 and younger, and 10 and younger.
“It’s such a delight, to work with the kids from our community, and help them develop not only their imagination but their writing skills, as well. Each year we’re blessed with some truly marvelous stories from kids in our community. Seeing the kids writing skills grow and develop over the years, is a marvelous treat.” said Brother Robert Theim, Master of Quincy Adams Lodge. “Our goal is to help kids develop life long skills that they can take and use wherever they go in life. The cash prizes add a nice little incentive and reward for their hard work.”
The contest usually runs from mid April through mid July. Applications can be picked up at the Adams County Library. The stories can be viewed on the Adams County Library Facebook page.
