I remember as a little boy my parents took me to Sunday school, every Sunday without fail. In Sunday school we sang songs, listened to stories, and learned Bible verses. One of the very first songs I remember learning is “This Little Light of Mine ” We sang this song in Sunday school, as far back as I can remember, back when I was learning to use a big-boy potty and tie my shoes. The little light is our faith, and letting it shine was sharing it with others.

Through our degrees we provide light in Masonry and early in our Masonic journey we are introduced to the Three Great Lights. As Freemasons, our moral and spiritual foundation is built upon the teachings in the Great Light in Masonry. We often refer to light as a symbol of knowledge and truth.
It makes no sense to light a light and then hide it. As Freemasons we shine the rays of light into the world when we allow our Masonic symbols to pass into our lives and become reality in our actions and deeds.
We shine by doing – not by talking. By practicing our timeless Masonic values we shine our light and project Masonic ideals into our communities.
We shine by acting as gentlemen, practicing tolerance and patience, behaving in a manner that is respectful and considerate.
Honor and integrity are at the core of the Masonic belief system. We shine Masonic rays of light into the world by practicing self-control and treating people with respect and kindness, and by forming deep and lasting friendships that transcend the boundaries of race, religion, culture and international borders.
We shine through an ongoing quest for personal growth, always striving to achieve high moral standards in our own personal life. We accept that we are not perfect, but by continuously chipping away at our own rough edges we become a better man while helping to improve the quality of life for others.
We shine by selfless giving; doing for others without asking, or expecting, anything in return. We shine the rays of hope into the lives of others through our charities to include holding and participating in various fundraisers within the community to promote charitable causes.
We shine by practicing our individual religious beliefs, trusting in God for divine guidance and respecting that the relationship between an individual and their God is personal, private, and sacred.
We shine, when through our actions and deeds, we demonstrate that we are not just men – we are Freemasons! Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
