Wisconsin Rapids Freemasons host Pinewood Derby

Wisconsin Rapids Freemasons Lodge (No. 128) has sponsored a local Cub Scout Pack for the last 4 years with the highlight event always hosting the Scouts Pinewood Derby.

The Brothers empty out the lodge room and connects each boy’s picture with the name of his car and information about the “driver” on the lodge video and sound systems. The lodge is decorated with racing banners and inflatable racing tires to create a real race atmosphere.

Each boy is interviewed over the sound system making it a special event for him, his parents and grandparents. The event is lead by Past Master David Bergerson who not only leads us in the set up and takedown but also does a simply excellent job as the racing announcer.

The day also included sweet treats with hot dogs and brats sold with all the proceeds going to the scout pack. Twenty-nine boys raced cars and competed for trophies. Some of the fathers and Lodge Brothers also competed in an open class.

As a Lodge we had as much fun as the kids and parents and always look forward to next year’s event.
